World Surf League Returns to India for the Shore Temple Classic QS 2000 and Inaugural Pro Junior

The World Surf League (WSL) has announced its return to India with the Shore Temple Classic QS 2000 and the country's first-ever WSL Pro Junior, to be held from 12th to 16th of August 2026 at Mahabalipuram Beach, Tamil Nadu.

The event will bring together surfers from across the Asia-Pacific region alongside India's leading athletes. It marks the second WSL event to be held in India, following the inaugural competition in 2023.

The competition will once again be delivered in partnership with the Surfing Federation of India (SFI) and the Tamil Nadu Surfing Association (TNSA).

Commenting on the announcement, WSL APAC Tour Director Ty Sorati said the WSL is pleased to return to India after the successful debut event in 2023 and to introduce the country's first Pro Junior. He noted that the combined QS and Pro Junior provide an important opportunity for Indian surfers to compete alongside some of the region's best athletes.

Surfing Federation of India President Arun Vasu said that hosting the events in India allows Indian surfers to earn valuable ranking points and gain competitive experience. He added that SFI's ambition is to expand to four additional WSL events in India, creating a pathway for Indian surfers towards Challenger Series and Championship Tour contention.
