Little Andaman Pro 2026
The Innauguration: A Historic Beginning at Little Andaman Pro 2026
The Little Andaman Pro 2026 was formally inaugurated on 6th April 2026 at Megapode, Srivijayapuram, setting a strong and symbolic tone for the days ahead. The ceremony was led by the Chief Secretary, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, alongside senior dignitaries from the administration, Tourism Department, and the Surfing Federation of India, marking a significant step in India’s surfing journey.
A defining highlight of the inauguration was the sand ceremony, inspired by the International Surfing Association’s tradition of unity through sport. Athletes from across India brought sand from their home beaches and poured it into a single glass vessel, symbolising the coming together of diverse coastlines, communities, and ocean athletes onto one shared platform. The moment captured the spirit of national integration within surfing and stand-up paddling, reinforcing that this event belongs to the entire country.
Following this, the Chief Secretary showcased the hidden cultural and natural wonders of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, presenting a compelling vision of the region as more than just a competition venue — a destination where sport, heritage, and pristine ecosystems intersect.
Shri Vinayak Chamadia, IAS, Director (IP&T), Andaman & Nicobar Administration, reinforced this vision, stating that the event “signals the rise of Andaman & Nicobar Islands as India’s next surfing hub,” underlining the long-term commitment to developing the islands into a premier centre for surfing and ocean-based tourism.
From the athletes’ perspective, the sentiment was equally powerful. Kamali Moorthy and Sekar Patchai, representing the voice of India’s surf and SUP community, shared that athletes from across the country feel overjoyed and warmly welcomed to the islands. Their words reflected both excitement and gratitude, highlighting the significance of competing in a location that has long been a dream for many in the sport.
Adding to this, Jehan Driver, General Secretary, Surfing Federation of India, spoke about the deeper meaning behind the event — the realization of a long-standing aspiration within the surfing and SUP community to ride the waves of Little Andaman. He emphasized how encouraging it has been to work alongside a committed and forward-thinking team within the Andaman & Nicobar Administration, whose support has been instrumental in bringing this vision to life.
Echoing this sentiment, Nawaz Jabbar, Director of Operations, Surfing Federation of India, affirmed the collaborative effort behind the event, noting that working alongside one of the most efficient and supportive teams in such an exquisite location for surfing and stand-up paddling has been a truly rewarding experience.
Day Zero was not just an inauguration — it was a powerful coming together of vision, culture, and community. With unity symbolised, voices heard, and purpose clearly defined, the Little Andaman Pro 2026 has set the stage for a transformative chapter in Indian surfing.
